Public Television's Sara Moulton to highlight WGBY's Asparagus Festival and Gala

Chef Sara Moulton, host of Public Television's “Sara’s Weeknight Meals,” will be among the participants in WGBY-Public Television for Western New England's Asparagus Festival and Gala on June 2 and June 3.

The festival takes place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on June 2 at Hadley’s new Seven Sisters Market Bistro & Long Hollow Bison Farm.

Moulton is scheduled to be on hand on June 3 from 6 to 11 p.m. for the station's "Spearit" Gala at Amherst's Lord Jeffery Inn. Participants can chat with Moulton will be during a VIP reception from 6 to 7 p.m.

Hadley's own V-One Vodka will kick off the evening with a specialty martini.

The June 3 gala will also feature a "collaborative feast" at 7 p.m. prepared by Moulton, along with chefs from area restaurants including The Red Lion Inn, Chez Albert, The Lord Jeffery Inn and The Farm Table. State Street Wine and Spirits will provide wine tastings with each dinner course. Tickets to the gala are $100.

During the festival on June 2 that is free from 10 a.m.to 4 p.m. and includes speakers and vendors, kid-friendly attractions include a visit with Curious George, a chance to meet a baby bison as well as be entertained by storyteller Tom McCabe of the Paintbox Theater.

Festival bands on the Rooted in the Valley Stage will include a line up by Signature Sounds the includes Heather Maloney and her band, Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem and Poor Old Shine.

There will be an outdoor asparagus luncheon from noon to 2 p.m. on June 2 prepared by four regional eateries in celebration of one of Massachusetts' most famous crops. Tickets are required. Cost for the luncheon is $10.

From 4:30 to 7 p.m., the "Beers and Spears" craft beer tent will offer a chance to sample area brews and enjoy live music. Tickets are required to enter the tent and participants must be 21 years of age. Cost is $25.

Cost for the combined luncheon and beer tasting is $35.

Moulton's PBS show is in its third season. Her recipes, carried by the Associated Press, appear regularly in The Republican, one of the event's sponsors with MassLive.Com

Moulton is the author of several cookbooks including "Sara Moulton Cooks at Home" (2002), "Sara’s Secrets for Weeknight Meals" (2005) and "Sara Moulton’s Everyday Family Dinners" (2010). In December of 2011, she launched “Sara’s Kitchen,” an iPhone app featuring 60 recipes, 60 photos, and 10 videos.
