In preparation for the upcoming seasonal flu season, Shop & Shop Supermarket 's in-store pharmacies are among those offering flu vaccinations, with no-appointment needed, according to a company release. The vaccinations are done any time a pharmacy is open by the company's in-store pharmacists, according to the release.
According to the release, the cost is $35, and the pharmacies accept "most major insurance plans along with Medicare."
According to the website of the government's Center for Disease Control, up to 139 million doses of vaccine are being produced this year. The government recommends that all individuals "6 months of age and older should get their yearly flu vaccine, ideally by October," and that "ample supplies "should be available by September and October."
A government study from 2005 through 2011 estimates that flu vaccinations "prevented an estimated 13.6 million flu cases, 5.8 million medical visits and nearly 113,000 flu-related hospitalizations" in the country during that time period.
"Flu shots are reformulated every year, so it's important for people to receive vaccinations annually" said Joel Berman, pharmacy director at the Quincy-based Stop & Shop New England division in Quincy, in the release.
He added that each year the company offers "affordable and convenient immunizations" "to help keep our customers and their families healthy."
Stope & Shop customers with the store's prescription savings card will also receive $10 off the regular price of a flu shot, according to the release. There is also a limited supply of coupon books with related savings for those who receive the shot.
Stop & Shop pharmacists also offer several no-appointment needed. adult vaccinations, including those for pneumonia and shingles with no appointment needed.
