Pop-up shop participants include 'Project Runway's" Joseph Aaron Segal.
Joseph Aaron Segal, a competitor on Season 11 of “Project Runway,” which premiered in January, will bring his World of Jas and Pretty Snake collections to Revolve, a fashion-oriented pop-up shop, in Easthampton’s Eastworks on Dec. 14, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The retail concept is the first curatorial project selected for the Mill Arts Project, in Suite 137, of Eastworks, at 116 Pleasant St.
The pop-up shop opens Dec. 6 through Dec. 24, featuring clothing and accessories for men and women, gifts for children, home accessories and furnishing, fine art and photography, and seasonal décor, from 27 artists and designers based in Western Massachusetts. There will be an opening reception on Dec. 6, from 5 to 8 p.m.
Also on Dec. 14, tenants of Eastworks will hold their Holiday Artisan Shop, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with book signings by Lauren Mills (“The Rag Coat”), Dennis Nolan (“Sea of Dreams”), Bob Marstall (“Crows! Strange and Wonderful”) and international photographer Greg Heisler.
There will also be a reception, from 5 to 8 p.m., on the first floor of Eastworks that day for Easthampton’s citywide ArtWalk. The walk features such venues as Mt. Tom's Homemade Ice Cream, 34 Cottage St., where photojournalist Christopher Evan's exhibit, "Worst-to-First," images of the 2013 Boston Red Sox season, is on view.
In addition to a Projection Art Party at Waugh Agency, there will be a pop-up exhibition on Dec. 14 at Eastworks, by The Return of the Three Berets, and other activities include pictures with Santa Claus, demonstrations by yo-yo experts, and a musical performance by Trevor Healey.
Maps will be available to guide participants in visiting the open studios on the building’s four floors.
Segal, who has participated in other temporary shopping initiatives in the area, called it “exciting to come back.”
“I’m a big fan of my fellow artists and designers at the shop, and am always so excited to see their newest creations,” Segal said.
Visitors, on Dec. 14, will be able to see Segal and some of his print and knit projects, now carried by Urban Outfitters, and stocked in stores from Reykjavik, to Tokyo.
Segal, who did graduate work at the Rhode Island School of Design, in Providence, and who recently relocated there, may have been nixed from the runway in episode four, but left the show with many positives.
“The show also helped me learn a lot about defining my aesthetic, and considering my customer more when designing. I’ve definitely gained some great new friends, and a bunch of my cast mates and I still keep in touch regularly. It’s really helpful having a community of designers to talk to,” he said.
Segal, who participated last year in pop-up shops in the spring and fall at the Whoo Space store front in Northampton, said he has seen demand increase for his ready-to-wear designs, like Crazy Kitty sweatshirts, since being on the show.
“Joseph has been a friend and supporter of our shop for a long time. We’re so happy for his success, and very excited to host this special event for him,” Athan Vennell, pop-up shop director, said on Segal’s appearance at Eastworks on Dec. 14.
Revolve is open Tuesday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with additional shopping on Dec. 23, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Dec. 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
