Kauila, of Springfield Central High School, and 12 other students are spending their winter vacation week in Puebla, Mexico, helping the town's Institute for the Blind and other community service projects.
SPRINGFIELD — Freedom Credit Union has helped fund Raylynn Kauila’s community service trip to Puebla, Mexico, during this most recent school vacation.
Kauila, a member of the credit union, is a junior at Springfield’s Central High School. She and 11 other Central students went on the trip last week during February school vacation to assist Puebla’s Institute for the Blind and complete other community projects in the area. Each student was responsible for his or her own funding, so Kauila held numerous fund-raisers and Freedom’s contribution of $400 completed her funding requirement.
Said Kauila of her trip, “I have been fortunate living in Springfield and I want to experience how people live in Puebla, Mexico.”
