After you graduate from high school, as summer begins, the idea of finally beginning college looms in the distance. You have already been accepted, so that stressor has long been eliminated, but as a potential college student you still may be nervous. Indeed, it is sometimes difficult for students to transition from high school into college life.

For one thing, most college students will no longer be living at home, rather they will be dorming at their college or university of choice. This can be a very big change, because for the first time in about 18 years, you, as a student, are living without your parents. You are almost completely independent. Your parents will not be nagging you to get your homework done, or making sure your grades stay high. You need to rely on yourself to prioritize and get things done.

In addition to this, being organized is also very imperative. In college, you are going to have a lot more work to do, compared with high school. Keeping an agenda to manage school work and tests can be very crucial to maintain high grades. When you prioritize and organize, you are able to stay focused and ultimately succeed, and you will feel less overwhelmed.

If you are overwhelmed, just as in high school, colleges provide school counselors that you can talk to on campus. They are there to help you stay on track and give you advice. They all want you to succeed and to do your best, just as your high school guidance counselors did.

Aside from academics, since you will be living on campus, it is good for you to involve yourself in your college community. Just like in high school, it is good to join clubs and other activities. You can meet new people and expand your horizons. College will be so much more enjoyable if you immerse yourself into fun things.

College should be a fun time in your life. It is the last stop on your journey to growing up and finding a job that is right for you. With these tips and strong motivation you will no doubt, once again, be in another cap and gown in no time!
