Academic honors for local students.
• Anthony Nicholas White, son of Daniel and Joanne White, of Longmeadow, was inducted to the U.S. Naval Academy Class of 2018 on July 1. He was appointed by U.S. Rep. Richard Neal, D-Springfield.
• Gabriella Sarkis, of Springfield, recently graduated with high honors from Nichols College. She received a bachelor degree in business marketing with a minor in c ommunications. She is also the recipient of the Nichols Athletic-Academic Award for playing soccer and lacrosse.
• Allison Ferris recently received her doctor of dental medicine degree, cum laude, from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Among her achievements were receiving the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society Scholarship Award, the American Association of Orthodontists Award, Special Care in Dentistry Award for Outstanding Performance and a Tufts Merit Scholarship.
Allison is the daughter of Peter and Gail Ferris, of Longmeadow, and a 2005 graduate of Longmeadow High School. She received her bachelor’s degree in science-business from the University of Notre Dame in 2009. Allison is currently working in the general practice residency program at the Manhattan Veterans Affairs Medical Center in New York, N.Y.
• The Mount Ida College spring dean’s list included Brea Davis, of Springfield.
• Brittany E. Guczek, daughter of Edward and Paula Guczek, of Springfield, was named to the dean’s list for the spring semestesr at Westfield State University. She will enter her sophomore year in September.
• The following students were among the 182 graduates from the Loomis Chaffee Class of 2014:
Alexandra (Ali) Corsetti, of Longmeadow, who was an exhibited student artist in photography, and a school tour guide. She was co-captain of the alpine ski team, where she received the Coaches’ Award. She also played JV lacrosse and soccer;
Andrew Cowan, of Longmeadow, who was a high honor roll student, and a contributor to The Log, the school newspaper. He served as co-captain of boys varsity lacrosse, where he received the Coaches’ Award and named West One League Team All-Star. He was also co-captain of the boys varsity football team;
Matthew (Matt) Rollings, of Longmeadow, who was the recipient of the Samuel C. Suisman Senior History Prize, and the Chéruy Senior Foreign Language Prize at Commencement. A National Merit Commended Scholar, he was selected for Cum Laude, the international society that promotes sound scholarship in secondary schools. He was also the recipient of the Junior History Prize and the Junior Foreign Language Prize, and departmental honors in Mathematics and History. He was captain of the boys varsity tennis team and received the Most Valuable Player and Coaches’ Awards; and
Kayla Schreibstein, of Longmeadow, who was the recipient of Science Department Honors at Commencement. While at Loomis Chaffee she was a Peer Counselor, sang in the school choir, and participated in the Musical Revue. She played on the girls track and field team that were New England Prep School Division I Champions, as well as being co-captain of the girls varsity volleyball team, and the varsity basketball team.
• The Endicott College dean’s list students for the spring semester included the following area residents: Hannah Elizabeth Cushman, daughter of Scott and Laura Cushman, of East Longmeadow, a senior majoring in interior design; Jocelyn Ann Kane, daughter of John and Judith Zelek, of East Longmeadow, a senior majoring in communication; Kirsten Merry Thor, daughter of David and Maura Thor, of Longmeadow, a senior majoring in exercise science; and Paige A. Pappelardo, the daughter of Perry and Andrea Pappelardo, of East Longmeadow, a sophomore majoring in nursing.
• University of Hartford students named to the spring dean’s list included: Christina Caldarola, of East Longmeadow ; Gina Mazza, of East Longmeadow; Ximar Carrillo, of Springfield; Sarah Banning, of Longmeadow; Matthew Anderson, of Longmeadow; Nathalie Wu, of Springfield; Shiran Asulin, of Springfield; Dylan Planeta, of Springfield; Shatoya Johnson, of Springfield;and Elina Vatnikova, of Springfield.
• Area students named to the spring dean’s list at Worcester State University included Patricia Johnson-Housey and Ruth N. Restivo, both of Springfield.
• Students named to the spring dean’s list at Merrimack College included: Frank Crinella, of East Longmeadow, a junior majoring in business administration; David Dubner, of East Longmeadow, a junior majoring in history; Christopher Barnhart, of Longmeadow, a senior majoring in business administration; Amanda Torcia, of Springfield, a sophomore majoring in business administration; Janelle Clarke, of Springfield, a senior majoring in English; and Kaitlyn Bouffard, of Springfield, a senior majoring in athletic training.
• Scott Besser, of East Longmeadow, was named to the spring dean’s list at Lemoyne College in Syracuse, N.Y. Scott, who completed his freshman year, is majoring in psychology.
• Area residents named to the dean’s list for spring semester at Rochester Institute of Technology included: Jillian Bertuzzi, of Longmeadow; David Engell, of Longmeadow; and Rachel Green, of Springfield.
• Stephanie Dionisi, of Longmeadow, was among students from Miami University of Ohio who received degrees during spring commencement exercises on May 17.
