Honors earned by local students.
• Thomas C. Hebert, of Holyoke, graduated magna cum laude from Westfield State University in May with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. He was recognized as a Commonwealth Honors Scholar after presenting his senior honors project entitled “From Indigenous American Identities to a Critique of Western Research Methodology: An Academic Journey,” which he researched while spending a semester in the Southwest living and working with Native American tribes.
Tom was also given an Academic Excellence Award by the Department of Psychology and was chosen by the department to be its student representative at the university’s 175th gala. He had previously been inducted into the honor society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.

• Raul Torres, a graduate of Holyoke High School, was named to the dean’s list for the 2013-2014 academic year at Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, Ill. He is a member of the Class of 2015.
• Thomas Spain, of South Hadley, was awarded a bachelor’s degree by the University of Massachusetts at Boston.
