Inside Scoop: Big Daddy's homemade ice cream and soft serve an awesome treat

Springfield venue gets four scoops.

SPRINGFIELD — I have been driving by Big Daddy's homemade ice cream, soft serve & dogs, at 955 Boston Road, for the past two summers. This season I made my first stop at the family-owned business.

The ice cream and hot dog/burger stand is simple and small, but the ice cream is awesome.

I went with a friend who had a small soft-serve chocolate ice cream, which she declared to be creamy and chocolaty enough.

I had the chocolate lover's hard-packed ice cream. The sign for the new special indicated the ice cream had fudge and chocolate cake pieces in it. I also found chocolate cookies as well as some chocolate crisp candies.

All the mix-ins were a nice surprise.

The ice cream itself was creamy and very rich. The fudge swirl was sweet, and combined perfectly with the ice cream.

I will definitely stop back to sample some of the dozen other flavors. These include peanut butter fudge, dinosaur crunch, and raspberry swirl.

I give Big Daddy's four scoops. Definitely worth a visit.
