HUNTINGTON - The Gateway Education Foundation's board of directors held its first annual meeting on July 10. The event took place at 4 Main Street restaurant.

The meeting was, in part, a celebration of the success of the foundation's inaugural year. Nearly $14,000 was raised in fiscal year 2013, and funding was granted for seven projects, benefiting more than 1,000 students, in the areas of science, English language arts, nutrition, performing arts and elementary literacy.

Annual business included three board member term extensions and the election of officers for the new fiscal year. Teachers Christine Bresnahan, Melissa McCaul and Dawne Piers-Gamble were unanimously re-elected for three-year terms. The board's officers were also re-elected for the coming year, including Shirley Smith Winer as president, Michael Crochiere as treasurer and Wendy Long as clerk.

In other business, the board accepted the foundation's annual report, which will be distributed to all donors, Gateway staff members and town libraries. It will also be posted to the foundation's website at gatewayeducationfoundation.yolasite.com.

Board members voted to offer a new round of Funds For Learning grant applications to Gateway staff when they return in August and approved $300 in purchases through the Shipman Memorial Fund.

Plans continue for Gateway's 50th anniversary during the 2013-14 school year.

The education foundation's board will hold its next meeting on Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. in the Superintendent's Office. Donations are tax deductible. Checks (made payable to the Gateway Education Foundation) may be mailed to 12 Littleville Road, Huntington, MA 01050. Online donations may be made on the website.
