Academic honors for local students.
• Area students named to the spring dean’s list at Assumption College in Worcester included: Megan Flanagan, of East Longmeadow; Matthew Fratini, of Longmeadow; Raheem Kelly-Reid, of Springfield; and Kristen Shypula, of Longmeadow.
• Zachary M. Franklin received his master degree in critical studies from Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore on May 19. He was also the recipient of the college’s leadership award for graduate students. Zachary is a 2007 graduate of the MacDuffie School and received his bachelor degree from Bennington College in 2011 . He is the son of Julian and Lisa Franklin, of Enfield.
• Boston University awarded academic degrees to 6,321 students in May. Receiving degrees were Springfield residents Shana Walas, master degree, social work; Shamoore T. Simpson, bachelor degree, human physiology; Anna R. Volain, bachelor degree, film, television, summa cum laude; Sheila E. Lamour, master degree, art education; Jahmeelah O. Bai-Grandson, master degree, public health, social and behavioral sciences.
• Milan Sands, of Springfield, received a master degree in human development and family studies from the University of Rhode Island.
• Area residents named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Providence College include Justin Ayala, of East Longmeadow, Jocelyn Bouchard, of Springfield, Brennan Cassidy, of Longmeadow, Sarah Colburn, of Longmeadow, Kelsey Deary, of Longmeadow, and Jordyn Komack, of Longmeadow.
• Area students named to the spring dean’s list at Ithaca College included: Shoshana Cuch, of East Longmeadow; and Byron Bixler, of Springfield.
• Mackenzie S. Collins, of East Longmeadow, a member of the Class of 2015 at St. Lawrence University, was named to the spring dean’s list. A psychology major, Collins graduated from Northfield-Mount Hermon School.
• Shane Latsko, of East Longmeadow, recently graduated from Hartwick College. He is the son of Thomas and Beth Ann Latsko. At Hartwick, Latsko participated in men’s varsity lacrosse and ski club. He majored in business administration.
• Five Longmeadow residents were named to the dean’s list at Boston University for the spring semester. They included Mia T. Bsat, Andrea S. Firestone, Benjamin R. Gagne-Maynard, Joshua R. Lyons and Samuel N. Neveu.
• Area students named to the president’s list at Western New England for the spring semester for achieving a semester grade point average of 3.80 or higher included Marc Bousquet, Samantha Carey, Juan Montanez and Aaron Stack, all of Springfield, and Diane Fradette and Shane Waltsak, both of East Longmeadow..
• Joseph M. Laviano, of Springfield, a student majoring in chemical engineering, was named to the spring dean’s list at Northeastern University.
• Springfield resident Terrell James graduated from Bard College on May 24 during the college’s 154th commencement. James was awarded a bachelor’s degree in political studies.
• Donicia Lamour Blanton, of Springfield, was named to the LaGrange College spring semester dean’s list in LaGrange, Ga.
• Area students named to the spring dean’s list at Worcester State University included East Longmeadow residents Kelsey A. Carnovale, Loren DeLisle, Alaine D. Martin, Daniel M. McGill, Kristin M. Phillips and Emily M. Rasid and Springfield residents Patricia Johnson-Housey and Ruth N. Restivo.
• Area students named to the president’s list for academic honors for the spring semester at Plymouth, N.H., State University included John Bresnahan, of Longmeadow.
• Area students who were awarded bachelor degrees by Assumption College included: Robert Bowden, of Springfield, political science; Megan Flanagan, of East Longmeadow, writing and mass communication; Matthew Fratini, of Longmeadow, economics; Raheem Kelly-Reid, of Springfield, marketing; Kristen Shypula, of Longmeadow, English; and Sara Underwood, of Longmeadow, accounting.
• Goodwin College in East Hartford, Conn., conferred 578 bachelor’s degrees, associates degrees, and certificates to the Class of 2014. Area students who were awarded degrees included Jisselle Assad, of Springfield.
• Area students named to the spring dean’s list at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., include Elizabeth Holmes and Colin Turkel, both of Longmeadow.
• Christopher Michael Allen, son of Richard Allen and Kathleen Sheehan, of Springfield, graduated from St. Michael’s College with a bachelor degree in political science.
